At the Sauvie Island Pumpkin Patch

Been far too long since I posted anything to this site. Lots of changes in life, most notably Declan Joseph Richter being born! He was born 6/2/2010 at 10:12pm. At 5 months old he still refuses to sleep through the night.

Ten

I had intended to be much better about this whole blogging thing, I have no fabulous excuses however…. nope. No excuses. I wanted to document my pregnancy better so I guess I better start now. 10 weeks from my due date :)

Same self-portriat pose

As you can see, I’m getting quite large. I can feel our little guy moving around all the time. So far I’m still fairly comfortable (knock on wood) though I am going to try to be better about exercising. A coworker and I are going to try to start swimming after work twice a week and I’m really looking forward to that. We’re starting to get the nursery put together and start childbirth preparation classes next week.

This is such an exciting time and I’ll try to write more frequently!

24 Weeks

Here I am in all my glory, 24 weeks pregnant. I still feel pretty fantastic aside from the occasional back pains and round ligaments stretching (think ab muscles). My tummy has definitely grown quite a bit in the past couple of weeks and baby boy is weighing in at just over a pound now. We can see him moving around and feel his kicks – sometimes he even wakes me up in the middle of the night with all of his acrobatics!

This weekend I’ll be meeting with a couple moms to learn more about childbirth and cloth diapering. I feel very fortunate to have these great women offer to share their experience and advice with me. I have SO much I need to learn over the next 4 months to prepare for his arrival. I’m not letting myself get overwhelmed though, we have plenty of time to learn the necessities and the rest we can figure out once baby boy gets here :) It is all so exciting!

Until next time,

S

I love my job!

As you should know if you’re reading this, I work in a retirement community. We have some of the best residents and on my way out one night I had this conversation with a few residents.

[I was walking by as they were eating so I did my best parade wave and said goodnight]

Res. 1 – “You know Sarah, I perfected that wave when I was Miss (something, I couldn’t hear it)”

Me – “You were in a parade?”

Res. 1 – “Oh yes, I rode in a convertible and everything”

Res. 2 – “Oh, I thought you were talking about when  you danced on the Lawrence Welk Show”

Me – “You were on the Lawrence Welk Show?!?”

Res. 1 – [obviously flattered] “Why yes I was”

Res. 2 – “Oh don’t get too excited. She’s too young to know who Lawrence Welk is!”

Me – “Actually, I do know who he is. That’s really cool [Res. 1]!”

Res. 1 – “See! Give the girl some credit.”

Then I left but had to crack up when I got in my car because the only reason I know who Lawrence Welk is, is because of these SNL skits:

Hello!

Adam has decided to let me in on this blogging adventure! We are trying to capture life as our world changes dramatically. I’m sure his posts will be more about technology, finance, interesting reading, adventures and exercising. I’ll be writing more about our life, the changes to our growing family, and whatever makes me smile. So here is a little bit about me, in my own rambling way :)

Obviously, the biggest change in our lives is our baby boy who is scheduled to be making his appearance June 2nd. We are pretty psyched for his arrival but simultaneously terrified of the responsibility and changes he will bring. I just have to have faith that we will be prepared and take comfort in the fact that we will be the best parents we can be to our little one. We also are ‘parents’ to the silliest puppy in the world, who makes us laugh constantly (or groan when she destroys furniture and socks).

I’m currently (and, may I add, finally) employed with a nearby retirement facility and transitioning into my new role as ‘Administrative Assistant’ which apparently is more like an assistant to the administrator than a receptionist. My job title at my previous employer was also an AA, but I mostly answered phones and did menial tasks. With the retirement community I’m moving from the Front Desk/Customer Service position to a role with more responsibilities around staffing, HR, training, finances, and who knows what! I’m very excited.

Adam and I were married just about a year and a half ago and I never dreamed I would find someone I was so compatible with. He truly is my best friend and partner in crime. I am excited to see what our life together brings. Just before we were married we bought a townhouse closer to where Adam works, and now very close to where I am working too. We’ve been slowly working to make it feel more like home, but I feel we have a long way to go, and lots of paint will be involved.

All in all, I must say my life is wonderful. I’m married an amazing man who I want to share all of my adventures with, we live in a great little house, have an adorable puppy and are looking forward to welcoming our son into this world. I hope this blog can be a place where family and friends can keep in touch with us and share in our life.
